Beauty in Simplicity

Today’s post is going to be quick – but don’t worry, I well make up for it tomorrow! I’m in the midst of hurrying and trying to finish all my packing! My best friend and I are headed to Vegas tonight for a girls weekend away! Anyways, I have these flowers that have been hanging around for awhile and I’ve been using them for my inspiration for my drawing and painting. But I really am best at photography. So I thought I would take some pictures today just in case they’re gone before I get back. What I love about these flowers is that they are so simple but so beautiful. Just a simple white flower with long petals and lots of them. It always reminds me to take time and look for the beauty in simple things. Because there is always beauty in simplicity.

Spring Appearing at My House (and a new table!)

Spring has finally arrived at my house! My azalea is blooming out front and the trees are all blossomed. They’re so pretty! Last year I decided I needed to make the front of my house prettier so I called up one of my best friends and asked if she wanted to help me. So off to Home Depot we went to find all the pink flowers we could. Came home and started digging up the dirt. We didn’t realize it was going to be so hard! Georgia doesn’t have just dirt – we have clay. So once we got through the first inch or two of dirt, we had to dig through about a foot of clay deep and then several feet wide to plant all our flowers. But I’m very pleased with the results. So here is the azalea. The roses and other flowers haven’t bloomed yet.

And then there is this beautiful cherry tree not too far down from us. It’s beautiful.

Lastly, here is my new table!!

And for grins, here’s what my kitchen looked like before we redid it. We redid the floors, counters, walls, etc. And soon we will be replacing the appliances. The wallpaper was a pain to take down. Don’t you love that blue marble look wallpaper that they put in?

Friday Flowers

My husband brought me tulips again this week – yellow and red ones this time. I had to take some pictures because they’re just beautiful! I’m mesmerized by the red on the tulips because it looks like it’s painted on. It’s so gorgeous. What do you think?

How was your week? Do you have big plans for the weekend? I don’t have anything big planned. I have a tennis match scheduled for tomorrow morning, assuming it doesn’t rain. After that just errands and then a lot of stuff at Church on Sunday. And then MICHAEL BUBLE Sunday night!!! I’m so excited!! Yay!! I can hardly wait. He’s the one man I’ve always wanted to hear sing in person that I haven’t. And now is my chance. Anyways, I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!

Friday Flower

I don’t know about you but I’m ready for January to be over. This month has just been rough between the freezing weather, my husband and I having the stomach virus, just one thing after another. Sigh. So I thought I would cheer up this post with one of my pictures of a rose – a reminder of Spring. I can’t wait until Spring.

Merry Christmas to Me!

My Christmas present came today! I am very excited!

Now I just need to learn how to use it. I will be watching the DVD after the season finale of Glee. Which I am very sad is over soon. What are you up this evening? Are you watching Glee also? Any favorite shows ending soon? Anyone else confused why “So You Think you can Dance” is having the Season Finale next week with 6 contestants? I am. Is it just me or are seasons getting shorter and shorter?

Janis Nicolay

While I was browsing through Canadian House and Home the other night, I came across this fabulous photographer, Janis Nicolay. I went to her site and looked at her portfolio and loved it! So I emailed her to see if I would be able to her use images in a blog post. She replied back within a few hours! She was so warm and bubbly and just so nice. Should I also mention that she’s on holiday in Australia right now? Jealous. Please check out her site and I discovered that she has a blog of her own here. James Merrell

As I have been learning about and researching Interior Design, I have learned how important a good photographer is. So now I keep my eye out for photographers as well as designers. Of course, another secret ambition of mine is to be a photographer. Yes, I might be in the wrong profession.

One of the photographers that has caught my eye is James Merrell. Here are just a few of the images that I love from his site.

The first thing that caught my eye was the chandelier. As you will learn soon enough, I love chandeliers. But the elegant, turquoise chandelier plays such a nice contrast to the rough walls. With the different fabrics and cozy furniture. I could easily curl up by that fireplace and read a good book!

From a cozy living room to a cozy bedroom. I love how the green in the bed comforter is carried into the room behind it.

Another living room – a well lived in one. I like the idea of putting the pictures on the fireplace. I certainly have that many! I love the pink peonies on the coffee table.

A blue dining room. Look at the wallpaper carried from the wall to the ceiling. I’m on a blue kick right now because of the many different hues and how it can move easily from room to room. Personally I would have had a shiny chandelier in this dining room, but that’s just me. I also do want one of those huge mirrors. Especially in a darker room, it reflects the light and makes the room a little brighter.

I had to put one picture in that didn’t have a lot of color since all the others were so colorful. This shows you that you don’t need a lot of color to make a room look elegant. Again, I love the mirrors and the black couch. It reminds me of my new chocolate brown one.
