It’s hard to believe that this was just a week and half ago. Another whirlwind trip to South Carolina to spend time with both families but enjoyable every minute of it. My nieces are getting so big/tall (all of them!) and we get to see the rest of the clan at Christmas – two more nieces and one nephew. We had lots of food and lots of family! What are the holidays for?!?

Last week was busy for me but I don’t know where it went! I start a new PT job tomorrow at Macy’s and I’m very excited but still nervous about it! So on that note, I need to hit the bed to see if I can get *some* sleep tonight before I have to get up early (for me).

Tonight I wanted to write about what I learned this year from BlogHer 2011. I am missing it already and following the twitter feed #BlogHer11 to see what others are writing about and doing. So here are just a few things that I learned this year.

1. Meeting people is just the best.

Maybe I’ve been a little lonely being at home by myself a lot these days but I just had so much fun meeting people, talking to people and just hanging out. I got to meet Rebecca in real life after we took a blogging class together last year. And I met some great new people that I hope to keep in contact with.

2. After getting a PR card, write what company they work for on the card.

Yes, I totally stole this idea from someone but I, too, am looking at too many PR cards but don’t remember what company they were promoting. Not good, especially when I want to get in touch with them again.

3. Take pictures of everything.

You all know I love to take pictures with my camera, but I didn’t haul my SLR around this year. I used my old point and shoot Cannon and of course, my iPhone. Nethertheless, they took great pictures, well, when people used them properly. What is more important, is that you take pictures of everything and with everything. I mean, how many times am I going to have a chance to get my picture taken with a Twizzler Statue of Liberty, or with the Pringle Man, or even the Jimmy Dean Sun guy (twice now!). It’s just fun.

4. The second year is easier.

I don’t know if it was just the CA feel or because we went last year, but this year just felt better. I knew what I was doing and I had fun doing it. I knew not to stress about missing classes and I knew that vendors were going to talk to me, but all of that was okay. I just had fun doing whatever.

5. You are going to be on your feet all day.

I probably was last year but don’t remember it as much. I just know that this year, I felt like I was on my feet all day. We did sit for lunch for both days but not much more than that. A lot of walking and standing. By the end of the day, I collapsed in bed totally worn out. So worth it though.

6. You don’t need to pick up everything swag item.

I like swag, I really do. I mean it’s free. But when you are packing your suitcase at the end of the conference with all that swag, it might be time to rethink some of it. I know I did and made a last minute run down to the Swag Exchange Room Sunday morning. In the end, my suitcase was still over 50 pounds but luckily I could move a few things out of it to another suitcase. I really wish someone had taken a picture of the car with all of us (Anna, her boyfriend, my hubs and me) and our luggage. It was quite comical. I’m glad we didn’t have to drive far.

7. Try not to be disappointed where there aren’t a lot of new clicks on your blog.

I handed out business cards – lots of them. But in reality, most of them were to vendors. So I’m trying not to be disappointed by the lack of new clicks on my blog. Maybe they’re just busy like me and haven’t had time to sit down and go through all the new blogs. It will be worth it later. That’s what I will tell myself.

That’s my quick recap of BlogHer 2011. I am excited about going again, even if it is in NYC next year again. Not that I’m complaining about going to NYC but I do wish that it was someplace different.
